Tips for Doing Well:

• Be in Class on-time everyday. There are many points given to in-class assignments, participation, and quizzes that cannot be made up if you are absent. You lose points for every class you miss, and after 3 classes I also start subtracting additional penalty points so you definitely don't want to go beyond your 3 emergency days (don't waste them--save them for emergencies that come up mid-semester or at the end!) More than 6 absences seriously jeopardizes your grade and you may be asked to drop the class, so beware.
  
• If you must be absent, check in with me immediately upon returning to class. This is important as you may have missed handouts or assignments. It is your responsibility to do this. Also, check the web page. Absences don't excuse late work not turned in.
  
• Plagiarism--Don't Do It! This includes using someone else's paper as your own or copying information from a book or website without giving proper credit. This will not be tolerated.
  
• Turn off or silence all beepers, phones, pagers, virtual pets, etc. They are a distraction.
  
• Keep Copies. Make backup copies of all papers on disk, keep hard copies of all papers when you turn them in, and give yourself plenty of time to print (computer error is not an excuse for turning a paper in late). Also, drafts are required when you turn in a paper. No Drafts=No Grade.
  
• Turn your papers in on time. Papers are due on the date assigned (either to me in the class or in my mailbox at SSM 208--make sure it is date stamped). Every day after that the paper has points subtracted from it.
  
• You must attend the Lecture in Bovard Auditorium. Two times this semester on Tuesday nights you will have a lecture to attend. Listen for announcements in class for time and subject. They are mandatory.
  
• Stay in touch. How to contact me: My office is SSM 203. However, DON'T turn in papers there. My mailbox is in the Writing Program Office , SSM 208. This is the office you call (740-1980) if you need to leave a phone message for me. My email is kim@keeline.com and you are welcome to email me and send me questions or even partial drafts of papers (I prefer them copied into the text of the message or sent as Microsoft Rich Text Format files--RTF files--which I will comment on and email back to you). I will answer them as promptly as possible. E-mail is the best way to contact me most of the time; USC gives you an email account, so use it.
